Tracking Salmon from the Rockies to the Pacific

Scientists have proven new miniature tagging and tracking technologies can follow the travels of small salmon through vast distances and highly dissimilar waters from as far as the Rocky Mountain headwaters of USA’s Columbia River through the ocean to the coast of Alaska. Rethinking Harbour Porpoises

“Harbour porpoise are usually one of the most elusive of the common cetaceans found in BC. Their small size and normally inconspicuous behavior means that they are often overlooked. They are often seen alone, or in small groups, and rarely show much surface active behavior. As we stopped the boat close by, we could hear their loud exhalations as they zipped around, frequently in pairs.”
A Decade of Discovery

In October the POST team will travel to London, UK to participate in events and celebrations around the finale of the Census of Marine Life. POST and its research community have played an integral role in the Census, providing exciting discoveries and heaps of new information about the distribution and survival of marine animals on the continental shelf of western North America.

Back to School Time Again
